Weekly Roundup 3 - Apple Watch, Notifications, Birthday & More
The Return of the Apple Watch
In the last weekly roundup, I mentioned that I was considering getting an AppleWatch again, primarily for health reasons. I ended up finding a used one from a mutual friend and took the plunge. Here are some quick thoughts:
Notifications
On first setup, I turned off all notifications with the intention of turning them on individually instead of the other way around. Currently, the only notifications I receive on my watch are Messages and Health/Fitness related. Nothing else. No summaries or priorities. I’m even considering limiting Messages notifications to VIPs.
Apps
The only apps I’ve installed for it are Sleep++ and Pedometer++ (same developer). I’d used them before and had no complaints. There are a couple of existing apps that I have enabled on the watch (Todoist and Carrot). I don’t listen to podcasts or music through the watch, so there’s nothing like that.
Watch Face and Complications
I don’t know that I’ve settled on a watch face just yet, but the only complications I’m using are the date, Pedometer++ (steps taken), and Carrot set to show the current feels like temperature.
Action Button
I’m still working on what I’ll use this for, if anything. It’ll probably end up being a simple launcher that allows me to add an item to Todoist, record a voice note, or launch the remote camera app.
Straps
The watch came with a trail loop. It’s nicer than I imagined and I might stick with it. I am very intrigued by the new titanium milanese loop though. The price is heavy, but if I can find a used one, I might give it a shot. Eventually. For now, I’m sticking with what it came with.
Say it Aint So
This past week, I turned 40. That’s a number that just doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t feel grownup or mature enough to be 40. Honestly, I’m probably not. My church (I’m a pastor) surprised me with a gift of hundreds (yes, hundreds) of Dr Peppers. They know I love them and went all out with the idea.
Reading
I’m up to book 9 in The Last Kingdom (The Saxon Chronicles) novels. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. If you like historical fiction and don’t mind a serious commitment, give it a go.
