July 4th Family Day.

Tiny theme has been updated and a new Tinylytics for Tiny plugin is now available. You can easily add site statistics, a hit counter, and a kudos button to any site using Tiny theme.

I can’t say enough about how great Tinylytics is. @vincent’s done some amazing work! With his help, I’ve been able to add support for it (including a hit counter shortcode & styled kudos button) into Tiny theme. It should be available in the next couple days, but you can see/test it on my site now.

Seems like as good a time as any to do yard work. Here goes nothing. 🔥

I just updated Tiny Theme to lay the groundwork for a couple new features coming soon. Coupled with that is an update to the Summary Posts plugin for it. Basically cleaned some stuff up, made some stuff a little quicker, added some future proofing, and…ya know…that coming soon stuff.

I love it when Github goes down in the middle of a big push.

I’ve been migrating email providers this week for the organization where I work. Domains and DNS and DKIM and Routing and Migrations and Policies and Dealing-with-People, oh my!

I’ve been on a great run of books lately. Cloud Cuckoo Land. The Lincoln Highway. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. The Last Thing He Told Me. Now I need something new. Any suggestions?

My son (6) woke up with a plan today. Make muffins with mom, go to a nearby town (40 min drive) to eat poboys, hit a couple shops, return in time to play a board game and watch the Braves, and make homemade pizzas for dinner. So that’s what we did. Good day!

I really want to like Readwise Reader, but I just can’t get there. It does a lot good but almost nothing perfectly. I’d rather have apps/services that do limited things well than ones that do a lot of things kinda okay.

If you’re interested in adding NIP-05 Verification (Nostr Verified Checkmark) to your domain via Micro.blog, here’s a quick tutorial on how to DIY it pretty easily.

There’s a new update for Tiny Theme that adds one of the most requested features. There’s now a separate plugin available that will enable summary/truncated posts on your home page instead of full posts. This is only triggered when your post has a title (meaning it will never summarize microposts).

Update 1.1.0: A new update to this plugin has been pushed out that allows customization of the default “Read More” text. Change it to “Continue Reading” or to another language entirely. It should also work with symbols like and .

The latest Tiny Theme for Micro.blog update includes bug fixes for the newsletter template, bigfoot footnotes, and forms in dark mode. Soon, I hope to add some features specific to tinylytics and cross-posting too. Are there any other features you’d like?

I’ve added a MacBook Air M1 to my for sale page.

Any more Tiny Theme users need a Bluesky invite?

Wife and kids surprised me with an early Father’s Day gift. It’s a winner!

My Safari Extensions in 2023

Here’s a quick rundown of the Safari Extensions I keep enabled on my devices (iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS).

Wipr

For ad blocking, many people go with 1Blocker, but I prefer Wipr. It’s a no nonsense, install it, and forget it app. 1Blocker is a fantastic app that allows almost limitless customizations and settings. Wipr is a fantastic app that has no customizations or settings. There’s a place for both, but Wipr wins for me.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Baking Soda and Vinegar are made by the same developer. Together, they change almost every video embed across the internet to use your device’s native video player. This means things like Picture-in-Picture are always available.

Stop the Madness

Stop the Madness essentially fixes broken sites and common annoyances across the internet. See full links instead of shortened URLs, hide banners on common sites, enables autocomplete on sites that have it turned off, stop link trackers, stop videos from auto-playing, and so much more. You can choose settings globally or per site.

There are other apps on my devices that have extensions available, but I have all of those disabled. In addition to Wipr, I use a paid NextDNS account for ad blocking and privacy.

I have accounts on many of the Twitter replacement type services (Mastodon, Bluesky, Nostr), but I haven’t found myself using any of them with regularity. My daily drivers are essentially Micro.blog and Instagram (where I don’t even post).
